Joseph Carter was born in Los Angeles and has lived in Southern California for the majority of his life.  Sticking to the moniker Joezilla, a childhood nickname spawned from his love of Japanese monster movies from the 70’s and 80’s, he started ZILLA PHOTOGRAPHY. With a firm belief that art and creative freedom should take priority over the static norm or popular trends, he has explored a variety of photo and editing styles.

But really, I’m just a regular Filipino-American guy who loves taking photos. I got into it through my hobby of modified cars and with the help of some close friends. I like chicken sandwiches and island reggae. My favorite color is red and my wife and I have a Shiba Inu and a Chihuahua. I hate photos of myself (hence my profile photo for most social media accounts) no matter how good they may look and cringe at my own Facebook and Linkedin profile pictures.  Street photography is definitely my favorite style of shooting right next to creative portraits and high fashion.  My biggest influences come from cinema, specifically Science Fiction and Psychological Thrillers, but also include a large range of inspiration from photographers such as David LaChapelle, Juergen Teller, Chase Jarvis, Brooke Shaden, Eric Kim (and through him Robert Frank and Henri Cartier-Bresson), and Daido Moriyama.
